Speaker

The Kiwanis Club of Scripps Ranch was happy to welcome Patty Campos from Mana de San Diego to speak at their March 5, 2024 meeting. Patty is a volunteer for Mana de San Diego organization that works with young Latinas to achieve upward mobility and a better quality of life. They do this with a strong mentorship program that starts with youth and continues through high school, college and entering the workforce. Student of the Month

Each month, the Kiwanis Club of Scripps Ranch recognizes an outstanding 5th grade student from one of our elementry schools. The student is selected by the schools 5th grade teaching faculty and approved by the principal. The qualities they look for are leadership, citizenship, and overall Kiwanis spirit.

January Student of the Month

Fifth grade, Tori K. from Dingeman elementry school was chosen as the Student of the month for December 2023. She was presented with an award at the February 6, 2024 Kiwanis Club of Scripps Ranch meeting. Tori is an amazing girl who because of her Type 1 Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) is non-ambulatory. She utilizes a manual Rifton wheelchair at school and home and mostly communicates by using Eye-gaze. Despite the significant challenges SMA causes, Tori contributes in the classroom as much as any student. Her teacher, Ms. Becker, explained how she remains interactive with all the students and is a role model and inspiration for the other students. It was truly a pleasure to hear about Tori’s dreams and aspirations.

February Student of the Month

Milo from Jerabek elementry school was chosen as the Student of the month for January. He was presented with an award at the February 20, 2024 Kiwanis Club of Scripps Ranch meeting. Milo is an enthusiastic, outgoing boy who loves reading, soccer and competing in the Lego robotics club. His teacher, Heather Maffioli, explained how it was an easy choice to select Milo to be the student of the month. His caring side for all his classmates and willingness to help made him an obvious choice. The Kiwanis Club of Scripps Ranch was moved by his discussion of how he wanted to invent a device to help other kids with physical challenges participate with the rest of the students – very timely considering our December student of the month. We are fortunate to have Milo as part of the Scripps Ranch community and appreciate the teachers of Jerabek highlighting this student for us.
